In addition to the eight annual scholarships, the OACA is pleased to offer two additional scholarships: The Coach Dave Johnson Scholarship and the OACA Directors and Presidents Scholarship.  Both of these scholarships are open to all graduating student-athletes.  Parental membership with the OACA is not required.

The Coach Dave Johnson Scholarship is awarded to a college-bound student/athlete who has been highly impacted by their coach in order to reach a level of success, both on and off the field of play, that makes them a credit to their team, school and community. This scholarship is sponsored by Dave Dowling, South Salem HS graduate, in honor of Coach Johnson’s meaningful impact on his life as a young student/athlete as well as all the coaches in our state that are positively impacting kids daily. The scholarship winner can be eligible for a $2,500 scholarship. He or she would receive $1,000 for their first semester of school. If the scholarship winner meets certain requirements during their first semester, they become eligible to receive $1,500 for their second semester of school.

Welder Training Scholarship

The AWS Welder Training Scholarship is for students seeking welder training in a certificate program less than two years in length through a trade school, community college, or other facility providing welder training.  The scholarship cannot be used towards an associate or bachelor’s degree program.

In 2023, up to 800 – $1,000 Welder Training Scholarships will be awarded.

May deadline Pacific Forest Foundation Scholarship

The Pacific Forest Foundation scholarship program has been in existence since 2012 and has awarded over $134,000 in scholarships to worthy students seeking an education and career in the forest products industry or related areas.Areas of interest; students who are in the following areas of study: forest and wood‑related areas, welding, diesel mechanics, choker‑setting and etc.

We seek student who are attending 2- or 4-year colleges such as: local community college, industry trade college, technical college, and state college who have forestry and industry-related courses.

Applicants selected can be repeat recipients (may have received past year scholarship) if they reapplied for the scholarship each year. Applicant must provide two letters of recommendation, preferably from an industry-related company.

Consideration for scholarship as follows:

  1. The potential contribution of the student in a forest resource, production, or related field
  2. Merit – scholastic performance in all classes (GPA)
  3. Potential of applicant’s future in the industry
  4. Letters of recommendation
  5. Transcripts provided
  6. Financial support of the student is NOT a criterion for selection
  7. Completion of application: grammar, ability to express self, neatness and accuracy of information submitted.
  8. Proof of acceptance to vocational school, community college, or university.

March deadline Lindy C. Eby Scholarship

Linda C. Eby served as a School Counselor for 33 years.  She was on the Oregon School Counselor Association Board for 20 years.  Her time and commitment to this profession was recognized in the Fall of 2014 when she received the Lifetime Achievement Award and the OSCA Board named its’ first-ever high school scholarship after her.  The goal of this scholarship is to recognize outstanding high school seniors and School Counselors in the state of Oregon.

Students are asked to submit an essay of no more than 500 words about a school counselor who has made difference in their academic, career, and/or social-emotional development.  This may be a current or previous school counselor.  The school counselor they are writing about must be a certified K-12 School Counselor in Oregon.

One winner will receive $3000!

Two runner-ups will each receive $1000!

The Catalfamo Family Scholarship Award is an annual award to
recognize a graduating senior of Waldport High School who is
pursuing a career to become an IBEW Journeyman Lineman. The
monetary award will be used to assist students with tuition costs
to achieve the goal of becoming an IBEW Journeyman Lineman.
Joe & Ashley Catalfamo are both alumni of WHS. Joe has been in
the trade for over 20 years and Ashley’s been there for the whole
journey as well. Along with the monetary award Joe & Ashley
wish to also extend their mentorship. They would like to make
sure your journey into the trade is smooth and successful. They
will make themselves available to help however they can for your
entire apprenticeship and beyond. The award is $1,500.00 broken

Scholar Program, recognizing Scholar Athletes and Activity Scholars who are graduating seniors at OSAA member schools.
The Scholar Program recognizes graduating seniors who have achieved a 3.50 or higher unweighted cumulative GPA and earned a varsity letter in an OSAA-sanctioned sport or competed in an OSAA-sanctioned activity.

FEB – MARCH WINDOW Sallie Mae Bridging the Dream Scholarship The Sallie Mae Fund’s Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program for High School Seniors helps make the dream of higher education a reality for outstanding students from minority and other historically underserved communities.

High school seniors who are facing financial challenges may apply to win a $10,000 scholarship to help them attend college or a vocational-technical school.

March Harrington Foundation Scholarship Established in 2014 by Oregonian and former NFL quarterback, Joey Harrington, the four-year renewable scholarship is awarded each spring to four Oregon high school students who are emerging leaders and plan to continue their education at an in-state college or trade school. Four scholarships will be issued for the 2021/22 academic year. Each scholarship is worth $4,000 per academic year for a total commitment of $16,000 per student. To learn more about HFF’s mission visit harringtonfamilyfoundation.org.
